Chelmsford City FC celebrate victory in style
A CLUB celebrated their football success with a reception at Hylands House.
Chelmsford Council organised a special reception for Chelmsford City FC at Hylands House last week, to congratulate the club on clinching the Ryman Premier League title.
After an eight year absence from the borough, Chelmsford City FC returned in January 2006 and the council worked to find a suitable venue for the team.
It was decided the club would be based at the Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre, where it claimed league victory last month with a draw against Ramsgate.
Since moving to the centre the club now draws average crowds of more than 1,300.
More than 70 guests attended the event, including the football club's directors, officials, players and volunteers.
Peter Webb, chairman of the club, said: "The council has played a huge role in supporting the successes of the team.
"I would also to thank the hard work of the club's directors, staff, volunteers and supporters who have made a massive difference this season. We're a community club with many junior teams and we're passionate about putting football back into the community."
Council leader Roy Whitehead, said the club and Hylands House were shining symbols of Chelmsford.
"Times have changed and so has Chelmsford. The club won the Ryman Premier League by a mile this season and I congratulate the players, manager and directors for all their efforts.
"Chelmsford City FC is very much a part of Chelmsford today and we want them to be a part of Chelmsford tomorrow."
